"Our Videos go to #1 Video where ever they go on the Net and No,...it's not because we're so mixed up now with Surfing" Says the Band's Lead Guitarist / Vocalist Clark Higgins; "We were huge on the web Long ago,...We were the biggest thing on Youtube and Myspace in 2005 and 2006 and we have only grown huger since then ,...the surfing certainly helps,...Our sound is very 1960's and it is forever romantically linked with the sport being that we're from the South Bay and Redondo Beach Ca,... I have never surfed myself and I can barely even swim at all,.. but our sound really goes with the sport,...I used to love the beach when I was a little kid,..as I grew a little older, i rarely went there anymore,..I was a really small kid and very pale ,...I couldn't get a tan ,...So I gave up on the beach and started getting into recording music,... I don't think I could ever have been a surfer even 'if' I was supported to be one,..it's just too dangerous of an activity,...and too many sharks and pollution in the Sea,... it's just not for me,..But My nephew loved it,.." Haggans' Nephew is Professional Surfer Hagan Kelley who is pretty much retired from the sport at 33 Years old and helps to run a Surf Company and clothing Line called Super in Encinitas; "My nephew is a genius at working in the Surf and clothing world,.. and he still is a great surfer,..he surfs all the time,...I wish he would get back on the tour,..but he's having fun doing now what he does" Says Hagins. Hagins made a tribute Video in honor of his nephew to the Greenhouse-Effect-Song "Irie Bob" and it works to perfection; "To get our music into the heads of millions of people is our priority ,..Surfing is an amazing skill sport and when i think of Greenhouse Effect Music,..it is amazing skill music too ,..what I do musically ,..it just goes wonderfully well with Surfing.." Vimeo's Rocking Videos - Greenhouse Effect 'Star' 1990 - Los Angeles Ca Monster Indie Rock. "Star" is the monster Song from the February 1991 Album "Going Legit" that has exploded to huge success on the internet since 2004 for Greenhouse Effect. The three piece band crafted this song shortly after parting ways with Los Angeles Mega-Guitarist Phil Keegan as Drummer_Clark_Hagins suddenly took over upfront playing the six strings as deftly as he had drummed in G.e. since 1985 along side funny red head bassist Rick Carmody and Keegan. The World's Most Watched Band hit their niche long ago in the "South Bay" area of Redondo Beach California as "Star", Ben is Dead, and Hey Negrita changed the band's fortunes in early 1991 - And started a musical revolution inside the entertainment industry; "We were the Hottest band in Los Angeles in 1990 and 1991" Says Clark Haggins "We bought up massive advertising all over Bam and Music Connection magazines,.... our sound was totally revolutionary ,...and we really were rock's original organized Grunge_Rock_Band !!" - Long before Nirvana and "Smells Like Teen Spirit", G.e. were getting big attention with 30 minute live versions of their classic "Hey Negrita" and it's massive Neil Young and the Stooges inspired power chords; "We were an indie band of epic proportions and we were on the verge of greatness,...that's when Seattle suddenly hit,..and we quickly disappeared from hero to Zero,....by January 1992, ...our once red hot band ,..was suddenly quickly on the back burners of rock,....Soon, we were almost completely forgotten as Seattle grunge took over,...Pearl Jam and all that shit,... We tried to put out new songs to get attention and we hit with some great new ideas in "Addicted' and "Shes A Bitch" as well as "White Suburban Liars',..but we couldn't sustain the momentum ,...and before I knew it,..everybody quit,..and it was over by January 1993 Completely" Says Haggins. "Star" was a long genius song as it is loaded with Songwriter Parts galore and some great guitar playing and magical lead singing from Hagins; "Our style of mixing David Bowie with the Who and punk suddenly lost it's luster,...everybody was getting into Kroq type Music in 1993 and 94' ,...that's when i knew it was over and I realized I had long quit." As a good bye present to no one in particular, G.e. shot about 4 or 5 hilarious 'videos' in Late 1992 in the freezing cold of the November December winter in El Segundo California's Jet City Sound Studios; "All I remember is it was freezing cold and we were all being filmed leaping around to "Manipulation" and "White Black Thang",...and we never sweated,..it was like 41 Degrees in that studio and I remember Ted's red hair was really brightened by the bright studio Lights (Laughs),...I remember I paid Ted some money to show and I asked him to remain in the band and as he was getting into his car he just said; "Dude,...it's over,.." and he drove away. The early 1991 'Going Legit' album would probably be G.e's defining moment as it was their first album without Keegan but indeed was a powerful collection of Clark Hagins' home studio guitar and lyric catchy classics he had built up over the years; "While we played with Keegan,..I already had "Ben is Dead" and "Star" ready to go,..I may have played them to Phil and he probably just Laughed." The Most distinctive brilliant song from 'Legit' was definitely "Hey Negrita" an unhinged story about a man with a Prostitute that is quite melodically disturbing but mandatory listening indeed; "Hey Negrita was from the story of Maury - The Lad insane _ who came home from America's 1990 War in Iraq against Saddam Hussein ,...and he had no friends as he lived homeless on the streets of San Pedro California,... it is probably G.e's most amazing song and really our only Legendary anthem" Says Haggins. The Long Neil young "Like a hurricane" like song literally defines G.e. as it predicts the sounds of Nirvana and Pearl jam and the 1990's to come. G.e. was way ahead of the curve as usual; "We were heavily influenced by a South Bay band called 'A Noise Agency',..they trully were the original Nirvana and they were from way back in 1985 in Lomita and Harbor City Ca" Says Haggins. Bands like the Minutemen and SSt Records other acts heavily impacted Hagins and briefly he lead sang with the band SWA in 1989; "I was way into indie alternative rock,...it really is true,..Greenhouse Effect is the original grunge band,..I was desperately sending all my band pictures and songs to all the Labels and I was imploring them to sign us and our new ideas !!" Greenhouse Effect never got a record deal and much of the world has forgot about them but they Live on in cyberspace of the internet and Hagins sees a bright future for a band that is long disbanded; "People will always look to us as leaders and me as the king,....We're a great band with the greatest songs,...nobody can change that or ever take it away from this three piece band !!!!" When Playing Live, Greenhouse Effect exploded as Keegan often showed at a gig wearing "What-ever-he-was-wearing-that-day" and hammered his guitar,..often wearing knee pads and high hiving the crowd alongside funny looking red head bassist Carmody as Haggins shouted some excellent powerful lead vocals - ALL FROM THE DRUM KIT !!!,...whilst Playing Like Keith Moon ????.... "Yeah,..you had to see it" Says Hagins "We were amazing,....and I was 21 years old and shit,.." Later on, in 1990's Late summer...the band would mutually part-ways with the mighty Keegan and Hagins the great drummer suddenly moved up to Guitar ???? Yes !! Along with the newly found in the Recycler Musician's NewsPaper Powerhouse Drummer Martin Silva; "When we suddenly got Marty in G.e. ,..me and Ted and this guy took things to an entirely new Level and we became born again as this amazing three piece band sorta like the Jamesgang or Grand Funk Railroad,.... We were suddenly this high energy band on stage with me now leading the way - we were more amazing than ever !!" Silva would eventually leave the band after a great gig at Nomad's Club in Los Angeles but a gig where only a tiny crowd showed; "That night in March 1992 sucked" Says Higgins. "We put on a killer three piece show but none of our crowd showed,..and the next day, Marty quit,....that's when we started rockin' with this guy named Palle that you might all know from your computer (Laughs)" Palle Karlson was a friend of the band who often hung out at G.e rehearsals but that Hagins questioned was good enough on drums to be in the band; "When I heard Palle drum,..I realized he was more than passable to be in the band,....So we just hired him and right away he became the "Coolest" guy in the band because he was such an emo nerd,..so geeky WITH GLASSES ,...he totally built the image that made us rock out in the "White Black Thang" videos in late 92'. The band finally called it quits as Carmody left for good and no music was recorded in 1993 as Hagins left music himself; "After 8 years and no record label interest,...I just gave up and it's a bummer,..because it wasn't over,..we got out at a bad time because indie rock and punk were exploding all over California and the South Bay,...but by that point, I was mentally tired from it all,..I was emotionally spent and finished...there was no way I was gonna play music again as I was turning 30 soon,..in those days,..that was very old age (Laughs)." This Track was recorded in June of 1992 in a session that also included "People....that Won't back Down', Search And Destroy, and "The Ballad Of Kurt Cobain" - "That recording session took about maybe two blocks of four hours a piece and money was tight,...I had to get it all done quickly and for under 100 or so bucks" (Laughs)" Says Clark Haggans. In a much different time, G.e. was suddenly basically reduced to a "One Piece band' down from their usual three people as Clark Haggins was carefully concentrating and trying to achieve 'studio perfection' and ofcourse improvements over recently recorded works; "There was no Rick Carmody at any of these recording sessions in the summer of 1992,..fact is, it wasn't a band anymore at all,..it was a solo project,.,.and now today all over the web ,..these songs just sound fucking killer now today ,..as they did way back then,... theres bands on major labels right now pouring 2 million dollars into their recordings in Digital 48 track studios n shit,...and the end result is a hunk of shit that sounds like Maroon Five or Death Cab or Modest Mouse,...all those bands suck ,..and all their weak ass shit music just sounds the same " Says Haggins "I recorded my shit for 40 bucks and it's better - way better,..and I even get more plays and web interest than they do (Laughs)" This recording session was also the first time a G.e. Project had been recorded in quite a while as the most recent session that included "Brandy" was late 1991 and into January Feb 92'; "But that was just for mixing" Says Haggins "When I walked into the studio in June 92', I hadn't recorded shit in like 6 months !!" Bill Krodel ran the console as Haggins laid down simple but powerful drum tracks and then added guitars,..returning days later to add his own played bass lines and then finally the lead vocals. The lyrics that Haggins brought in that day certainly seemed to reflect Haggins anger at life; being rejected by people, being rejected by record labels, etc,....all sang in an angsty David Bowie-inspired lead vocal style that seemed to flow perfectly with the instrumental tracks. "No Takers" is one of my greatest songs,..its right there with "Brandy",..maybe its better than "White Black" I donno,.....I don't know if its as good as the "Going Legit" shit,...but it's damn good !!" Says Haggins. About a month after "Takers" would ofcourse come "Addicted" and Misogynistia (Shes A Bitch.....And then you Live) as Haggins worked on some new ideas that seemed to go with his "Rock Opera' themes. "I just kept getting better and better,....but unfortunately, soon,..it all would end,....'going into late in that year (1992) ,..I was just out of money and sick of it all,..record labels were rejecting all of my material and signing bullshit bands instead,...it was just over,..plus Ted was in the One Handed Readers, Flipper had moved to San Jose,... everybody was gone,...there was just me alone left ,...it was over,..and I had recorded the gamut ,...I had done every kind of song and could impress nobody back then ,...it was time to quit." In Late 1992, the band reassembled for one final "Video Session" as Haggins, Drummer Palle Carlson, and Bassist Rick Carmody filmed clips that would later become internet classics in hilarity but also in sheer numbers of views, particularly for the one that was "White Black Song" - "It was Great to get all those Songs up on the web atlast,..for people to finally see G.e. - A Great band that never got their chance,...We were a Great band ,..its very unfortunate what happened to us,....our songs were too important and they reflected a hard life I lived" Says Haggins - Rock City Entertainment - Boston Massachusetts.
